Lok Sabha Elections: INDIA Bloc Meet Likely On June 1

| Updated: May 27, 2024 14:55

The top leaders of the opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) are expected to meet on June 1 to review their performance in the Lok Sabha elections and plan their course of action before the results are announced.

As the final phase of voting will soon begin, sources stated that the scheduled meeting will take place in Delhi in the afternoon on June 1. Reportedly, the meeting has been called by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

According to the sources, the Opposition leaders will evaluate their standing in the seven-phase elections. The Opposition alliance has been asserting that it can form its own government to stop the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, from gaining back its hold on the centre.

Following these elections, the party in power, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has reiterated its claim to form the central government for the third successive time.

The INDIA bloc is an alliance of 28 opposition political parties. However, some parties, such as Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) and the Rashtriya Lok Dal, later switched over to the NDA.
