It was a day when cold, clinical, and terrifying emails rattled Bengaluru schools and the city at large. Panic set in within minutes of some bomb threats through Bengaluru’s schools.
But behind the chaos was no shadowy terrorist network. It was just a single woman carrying the wounds of unrequited love.
What emerged was a web of digital deceit spun, all executed with precision.
Investigators traced the trail back to an unlikely suspect: a 30-year-old software engineer from Gujarat, driven not by ideology, but vengeance.
Identified as Rene Joshida, she allegedly sent bomb threat emails to multiple schools in the city.
Reports claimed that she tried to frame a man in a criminal case for rejecting her love advances. She hoped digital traces would lead investigations to the man.
To achieve her objective, she reportedly used virtual private networks (VPNs) to conceal her location and relied on a mobile application called “Gate Code” to generate phony numbers for creating multiple online accounts.
It felt eerily like scenes from the Nasseruddin Shah starrer, A Wednesday.
According to reports, investigations further revealed that she had opened seven WhatsApp accounts under different names to conceal her identity.
The police conducted extensive searches on campuses. Even though no explosives were found, the schools shut down as a precautionary measure.
As the police dug deep into the case, a darker pattern emerged.
This woman reportedly is a history-sheeter. Reports added that she had previously been arrested by Chennai Police in connection with a similar bomb threat incident.
Additionally, she is facing criminal cases in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
“The investigation began soon after the email alerts were reported,” North DCP Babasaheb Nemagoud was quoted as saying. “We traced the digital footprints using advanced forensic tools. Despite her use of VPN and virtual IDs, our team was able to identify her through her digital trail and IP inconsistencies. She was taken for three days police custody and produced before Gujarat court on October 31 and currently under judicial custody,” he said.
We have heard it said that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. But that obsession can spiral to this extent beggars belief.
