Gujarat: Bomb Threat Prompts Holiday at Vadodara Schools, Turns Out to Be Hoax

| Updated: January 24, 2025 16:22

Three schools in Vadodara, operated by the Navrachana Education Society, declared a holiday on Friday after one of them received a bomb threat via email. Authorities later confirmed the threat was a hoax.

The incident came to light when the principal of Navrachana International School, located on Bhayli-Vasna Road, reported the bomb threat to the Vadodara police control room. The threat was received on the school’s official email, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police G B Bambhania.

The email, sent from an unidentified account, claimed that a bomb with a timer had been planted in the drainage system of Navrachana school. “Since there are two additional Navrachana schools in the Sama area, police teams, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), a dog squad, and cybercrime officials, initiated an extensive search in all three schools,” Bambhania told reporters.

The schools were immediately evacuated, and the management declared a holiday as a precautionary measure.

“Our teams reached the schools without delay and launched a thorough search operation. The management’s decision to declare a holiday ensured the safety of students and staff,” Bambhania said.

The search, which lasted three hours, concluded with no suspicious items or explosives found at any of the three schools. The police’s cybercrime branch has begun investigating the source of the email and will attempt to trace the sender through the email’s IP address, Bambhania added.

Navrachana School’s administrator, Biju Kurien, confirmed the closure of all three institutions for the day. “We informed parents about the situation and our decision to declare a holiday. The police carried out a detailed search of the premises, but nothing suspicious was discovered,” Kurien said.
