Mahua Moitra Once Again Targets PM Modi Over Goddess Kali

| Updated: July 11, 2022 11:14

It seems that the Goddess Kali controversy is not going to die down anytime soon. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has now targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while calling out Amit Malviya. Without naming either of them, Moitra has said that the one who is responsible for spreading trolls should inform his higher-ups to not talk about things they don’t understand.

Moitra said, “I will tell the BJP’s troll-in-charge (read Amit Malviya) to tell your masters, it is better not to talk too much about what is not known. Didi O Didi got them the boot. Now Maa O Maa will get them a foot on their chest.”

Moitra’s comment came in reply to PM Modi’s statement regarding Ramakrishna Paramahansadeva and his belief in Goddess Kali. He had said, “Ramakrishna Paramahansadeva saw mother Kali clearly. He has surrendered everything at Mother Kali’s feet. He used to say, this whole world, the consciousness of the mother pervades all around. This consciousness is seen in Kalipujo of Bengal. This consciousness is seen in the faith of the whole of India. Mother Kali’s blessings are always with India. It is this spiritual power that is giving India the strength to think of world welfare today.”

The entire thing started earlier this month when Moitra commented that everyone has the right to imagine their diety in their own way. She further added that she thinks of Goddess Kali as a meat-accepting and alcohol-drinking diety. She said, “For me, Goddess Kali is a meat-eating and alcohol-accepting goddess. And if you go to Tarapeeth (a major Shakti peeth in West Bengal’s Birbhum district), you will see sadhus smoking. That is the version of Kali people worship (there). I, within Hinduism, being a Kali worshipper, have the right to imagine Kali in that way; that is my freedom.” Her comments came were regarding a movie whose poster depicted a woman dressed as Maa Kali and smoking.
