The judicial magistrate in Vadodara has convicted a man of three months of imprisonment for indulging in an extra-marital affair. The court stated that the affair has caused deep mental harm to the wife.
Yogesh Patel along with his family members was charged under IPC section 498 (K) for the harassment of Patel’s wife, Ekta. She filed a police complaint at Gorwa police station in 2017. She stated that the family members and her husband used to beat her over household chores. Patel used to threaten her over divorce too.
Patel entered into an extra-marital affair post their first child was born. His parents used to support him in domestic violence acts. Patel met the other girl at their garment showroom.
The court said that under IPC 498, there is a provision for three years of imprisonment but Patel was not a criminal and there is a responsibility of taking care of his old parents. Therefore, he was sentenced to three months and a Rs 5000 fine.
