Declining standards seem to be the way Veer Narmad South Gujarat University in Surat is headed to.
An apex body, to which several colleges are affiliated, this varsity’s tryst with cheating is infamously famous: from chits, mass cheating to using deceitful methods fed in cell phones solely to con examiners. The latest case pertains to the B.Com sixth semester exams held in November, wherein, the caught student pointed out that he was not the only one. The entire hall was cheating.
Two students from S.D. Jain International College were caught by the invigilator and the matter sent to the disciplinary committee. The matter was taken up by the committee on Friday in light of a defence letter by one of the offenders stating: “We are not the only ones. Please examine the CCTV footage and you will know that the entire hall was busy copying from each other or from their phone.”
Thereon, the committee compiled a list of the phone number of all examinees present in the hall that day. Most were linked to one WhatsApp Group and the data found was similar.
The VC has summoned the invigilator and exam coordinator. However, what happens of the examinees and the exam they appeared for, will be decided in due course.
