Even as major political parties brace for a no-holds-barred campaign for next month’s crucial Uttar Pradesh election, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has announced she will not contest the polls.
Making this announcement on Tuesday, party general secretary SC Misra said since the BSP would be contesting in Punjab and Uttarakhand as well, Mayawati would focus on the party’s campaign.
The UP Assembly elections will be held from February 10 to March 7 in seven phases and the results would be on March 10. The BSP will contest all the 403 seats alone.
Misra said he will also not contest the polls.
Mayawati is currently neither an MP nor a legislator.
