MICA: A Much-Awaited Learning Ground For Emerging Technology

| Updated: December 22, 2022 16:21

As India anticipates an increase in demand for digital products and immersive elevated experiences, MICA, India’s premier B-school for strategic marketing and communication, has launched a module that delves into Metaverse, Blockchain, NFTs, and other emerging technologies.

The module ‘Business of Emerging Technology Landscape’ will provide students with an overview of Metaverse, Blockchain, NFTs, and coins and tokens, allowing them to understand the business implications of these new technologies before entering the industry.

Second-year students will be able to have their own NFT, create a metaverse using AR or VR, acquire skills to build an ideal crypto portfolio, learn the different types of crypto coins and understand the business of NFT.

Shedding light on the new trends, Dr Shailendra Raj Mehta, President and Director, MICA, said, “Immersive technology is an addition to the human experience and has the potential to transform consumer-centric business. “We have consciously decided to integrate futuristic technology experiences into our curriculum and pedagogy so that students get the required knowledge before they go out and work.”

MICA is also setting up a Meta Lab. It will carry out academic research, publish high-quality research papers, and establish MICA as the leader in academic research in the domain of the Metaverse. The lab will work with industry and metaverse start-ups to conduct consumer research to better understand how the Metaverse influences consumer decision-making in the ever-changing ecosystem.

The course is designed to cultivate an analytical mindset in students to conduct various functions within the area. Students will develop global and national perspectives to apply their learnings to day-to-day business situations through case studies, discussions, and best practises of specific organisations.

Prof. Santosh Patra, Head, MEM at MICA, said, “Business school curriculum and pedagogy are all about being industry relevant and ready especially when consumers and societies are witnessing a technological disruption.”

He added, “We have eminent speakers from the industry who share their learnings and bring relevance to our classrooms. Recently, adjunct faculty Dr Darshan Ashwin Trivedi’s film ‘Lakiro’ became Gujarat’s first film to launch its NFT. Through this, he brings immense knowledge on NFTs to our students.”
