PM Narendra Modi has reciprocated US President Donald Trump’s statement that he will always “be friends with Modi”. This has signalled that a patch between the two is soon on the cards.
With both US President Donald Trump and PM Modi affirming their personal friendship and strength of bilateral ties, India and US appear to have taken first steps to patch up the thawed relationship.
Replying to a question, President Trump made it clear that he does not think US has lost India. He also stated: “I get along with Modi as you know, he was here a couple of months ago, we went to Rose Garden and did a press conference.”
With Trump and Modi making it clear that they had no grudges towards each other, maybe there are close to a patch up with may mean closer bilateral ties. It remains to be seen if this statement by Trump drowns down his key closed group that has been making regular statements against India. With Trump and Modi’s statements, maybe they will now engage with each more directly, perhaps first on phone before deploying their trusted staff to sort out issues and consolidate the relationship.
Coming out in the open after his telephonic conversation with President Trump on June 17, PM Modi had posted on X : “ Deeply appreciate and fully reciprocate President Trump’s sentiments and positive assessment of our ties. India and the US have a very positive and forward looking Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership.”
Meanwhile, Delhi is positive that things will soon resume normalcy and US-India relations will go back to normal.
