Moitra, Dehadrai spar over Rottweiler’s custody

| Updated: October 21, 2023 12:04

A three-year-old Rottweiler – a large, muscular family dog – is sandwiched in a public dispute between Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai and TMC MP Mahua Moitra.

The former partners are sparring over the custody of the Rottweiler named Henry.

Dehadrai, according to reports, has alleged that Moitra offered to return Henry if he withdrew the complaint he has made to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding her suspected association with the Hiranandani group in the ‘cash for query’ episode.

Both Dehadrai and Moitra have accused each other of stealing Henry and have approached the Delhi police.

One report claims that Moitra described Dehadrai as a jilted ex who wanted to get even with her.

It added that Dehadrai claimed he purchased Henry from someone called AB Bahuguna in Janakpuri in January 2021 for Rs 75,000. He claimed to have paid the amount in two instalments of Rs 10,000 and Rs 65,000 and even offered proof of the payments.

“My bond with my dog Henry is that of a parent and child. I have looked after him since he was 40 days old, and I understand his every need and concern,” the report cited Dehadrai’s police complaint on October 19.

Moitra has however insisted that Henry belongs to her. She even accused Dehadrai of trespassing into her official residence in Delhi and stealing Henry, but said he returned the Rottweiler later.

Moitra said she did not go legal initially and tried to make Dehadrai see reason. However, she claimed another incident compelled her to file two

complaints with the Barakhamba police station on March 25 and September 23, 2023. Moitra said she withdrew the complaints on account of the “erstwhile friendship” they had shared.
