Morbi Bridge Tragedy: World Leaders Extend Their Condolences To India

The death toll in the Morbi suspension bridge collapse in Gujarat has risen to more than141, official sources said Monday morning, even as search and rescue operations continued with teams from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force pitching in. However, Facebook has temporarily blocked the Hashtag of Gujarat, after the Morbi bridge tragedy.

Meanwhile, Prominent world leaders extended heartfelt condolences to India on the loss of precious lives in the tragic incident of the Morbi’s bridge tragedy. Vladimir Putin, Russian President conveyed his condolences on the Morbi tragedy in Gujarat to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the statement it stated that “please accept our most sincere condolences on the tragic consequences of the bridge collapse in the state of Gujarat”.

Further, Prime Minister of Nepal, Sher Bahadur Deuba has also conveyed his grief over the tragic incident in Gujarat. He tweeted “ we extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India on the loss of precious lives”. 

Also, British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis was shocked by the Morbi tragedy in Gujarat. He used twitter saying that “Terrible , shocking news from Gujarat”. 

The Gujarat government said in a statement Monday all 132 bodies have been handed over to their respective relatives. According to the statement, of the 11 people who were injured, six have been discharged and five are under treatment in hospitals. The statement added 172 people were rescued.
