SRINAGAR, J&K: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti escaped unharmed in a road accident on Thursday, January 11, 2024, while her driver sustained leg injuries. The incident occurred in the Sangam area of Anantnag district in South Kashmir.
Mufti was on her way to Khanabal to meet victims of a recent fire incident when her vehicle met with an accident. According to party officials, the driver received injuries to his leg. The front end of the car, particularly the driver’s side, sustained significant damage.
Mufti’s daughter, Iltija Mufti, took to social media to express relief and gratitude. “Ms Mufti’s car met with a terrible accident enroute Anantnag today. Thanks to the grace of God, she and her security officers escaped unhurt without any serious injuries,” she wrote.
Expressing concern, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also took to social media. “Glad to hear Mehbooba Mufti escaped injury in what could have been a very serious incident. I expect the government to enquire into the circumstances of the accident. Any gaps in her security that contributed to this accident must be addressed immediately,” he wrote.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. While Mufti and her security personnel escaped unharmed, the incident raises concerns about the safety of politicians and the need for a thorough investigation into security protocols.
