| Updated: May 13, 2022 13:09

Baroda Cricket Association, with the support of the Aditya Birla Capital, is organising a Fast Bowler Talent Hunt, ‘In Quest of Speed’, with the aim of identifying talent in the less explored regions of the district. This initiative is part of the association’s ‘From Streetlights to Floodlights’ project. Renowned talent of Baroda Cricket, former Indian Pace Bowler Munaf Patel, would be the Scout and Mentor for the programme.

The initiative embarks upon identifying and mentoring the fast bowlers from the unexplored regions of Baroda District Jurisdiction like Amreli, Kodinar, Karjan, Jambusar, Petlad, Sankheda, Bodeli, Mesrad & some more surrounding areas. This exploration process is an effort to search for few skilled or raw fast bowlers and train them to become an asset to the game of cricket. The age limit is 16 to 21 years but they bowlers above age limit are also welcome who has the speed.

Patel will train the selected players in a one month camp, where they would enhance their talent. The comprehensive camp would cover the required parameters of the bowling style like skill, speed, strength, technique, and so on. The camp will help the players to progressively develop an expertise of pace bowling and advance towards the objective — ‘Growing up to the Game’.

“Its a fast bowling quest and we want to search speedsters, especially from rural areas and help our team to get talented fast bowlers. These bowlers can later on in life be the stars on bigger platforms like IPL and other tournaments. We will conduct camps at selected areas and identify the talents and later train them in our Baroda Cricket Academy. Later on, we will support and encourage them to play league matches. Most important thing is that the selected players will not have to pay anything for the training. We are looking for genuine speed bowlers who can bowl 140 plus,” said Munaf Patel.

Munaf further added that he grew up in a poor family that bwas part of rural area and has achieved this stage in his career. He knows the talents in the area, so its easy for him to recognise the talent.  He also praised talent of Umran Malik, currently playing IPL, and hoped that the hunt would bring forth two or three such bowlers before the Ranji season.
