Narmada Canal In Kutch Tumbles In Less Than 24 Hours Of Inauguration

| Updated: July 8, 2022 12:50

In Gujarat, the Congress and AAP slammed the BJP government as the Narmada Canal tumbled within 24 hours of inauguration. Moreover, the opposition parties have shared the video on their social media handles.

Saras Patel from Congress said, “Within 24 hours, a part of the Narmada canal collapsed. The water claimed as a boon for Kutch farmers flooded their fields and destroyed their crops.”

Congress also tweeted the video and said it didn’t even take 24 hours for the Narmada Canal supplying water to Kutch, operated in Gujarat, to collapse. “It submerged the villages and destroyed the crops, exposing the corrupt Gujarat model of Governance,” the tweet mentioned.

On the other hand, BJP’s tough competitors for Gujarat Assembly 2022, the Aam Aadmi Party, tweeted, “Corrupt BJP squandering your tax money.”

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Kutch Branch Canal (KBC) and tweeted a video of people cheering as river Narmada reached Modkuba and Bhujpur Canal. During the inauguration, Chief Minister said, “It was the dream project for Narendra Modi, and his efforts and inspirations made it possible.”

Further, he said the project started in 2017 to provide water that could reach agricultural and industrial areas of Kutch.

Kutch MLA Virendresinh Jadeja informed the media that the water reached the villages as a part of a trial. Contractors do so to look for defaults and repair them. However, a slab fell during the trial. He stated, “After five years of construction, the contractor must maintain the canal. But, it is not the government’s responsibility. If it collapsed in the morning, the team would’ve repaired it by now.”
