National Cow Culture Museum To Come Up In Mathura

| Updated: February 16, 2026 15:15

Mathura is set to host the country’s first national museum dedicated to “cow culture,” with the project planned on the campus of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Veterinary Science University.

According to officials, the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad has taken the initiative, and land for the museum has already been identified.

Agra Divisional Commissioner Nagendra Pratap has been quoted in media reports saying that the proposed museum will highlight the religious, cultural and spiritual importance of cattle, while also educating visitors about the scientific value of cows and cow-based products. He described the project as a blend of tradition and modern knowledge that can encourage a broader understanding of cow conservation.

According to media reports, on Saturday, senior officials visited the selected site and reviewed the project plan. Those present included Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad Vice-President Shailajakant Mishra, Divisional Commissioner Nagendra Pratap, District Magistrate CP Singh, Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority Vice President Lakshmi N, Braj Teerth Vikas CEO Suraj Patel, Environmental Advisor Mukesh Sharma, and Dr Amit Shukla from the veterinary university.

Officials said the museum will feature around 100 digital and symbolic models of cattle, showcasing major Indian breeds along with endangered varieties. The aim is to preserve and present India’s extensive cattle heritage for future generations.

One of the main attractions will be an exhibition focused on cow milk and dairy products such as curd, cheese and ghee. Modern display techniques will be used to explain their scientific, nutritional and Ayurvedic relevance.

A dairy parlour is also planned within the premises to provide visitors access to pure dairy products.

The commissioner noted that the museum will also reflect the cow’s status as a “mother” in Indian culture, underlining its importance in the Sanatan tradition. He added that cow conservation is viewed not only as an agricultural or economic issue, but also as a matter linked to religious practices, ethical living and public welfare.

Developed at the national level under the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the museum is expected to enhance the identity of the Braj region and serve as an important step toward promoting a cow-based economy supported by scientific standards.
