Ahmedabad SOG Busts Rs 8 Crore Hybrid Cannabis Haul, Brother-Sister Duo Arrested

| Updated: February 13, 2026 17:20

It started with a tip-off near Noble Nagar near the Naroda area of Ahmedabad.

A car on the Chiloda-Airport stretch caught the eye of the city police’s special operations group (SOG) on Wednesday evening. Inside, they found more than just passengers.

Three cloth bags sat on the rear seat. They contained 26 sealed packets. A greenish-brown plant-based substance spilled a strong, unmistakable smell. A forensic science laboratory officer at the SOG office confirmed it: hybrid cannabis. The total weight was estimated to be 22.78kg.

Hybrid cannabis is a modified strain of marijuana. It is cultivated for higher potency and fetches steep prices in the illegal market.

It’s reported that the siblings behind the haul were Chetan Prajapati, 28, from Rajsamand, Rajasthan, and his sister, Jiya Prajapati, 34.

They are originally from Chittorgarh, Rajasthan.

Alongside the drugs, police recovered three mobile phones, an Indian passport in Jiya’s name, and the car used to transport the consignment.

Jiya allegedly revealed a wider network. She travelled to Bangkok in November 2025. There, she met two individuals who later asked her to arrange carriers to bring hybrid cannabis to India. In January 2026, four men from Rajasthan were reportedly sent to Bangkok. One was caught at Mumbai airport with a bag of contraband. The remaining three allegedly delivered the shipment to the siblings in Gujarat.

The DCB has registered an offence under the NDPS Act for possession, trafficking, and criminal conspiracy. Police say the seized stock was meant for sale in the city. Investigators are now verifying travel records and examining digital evidence to trace the foreign supply chain.

The 22.78kg haul is valued at Rs 7.97 crore. Add the car and mobile phones, and the total seizure reaches Rs 8.01 crore. Police noted the sealed parcels suggested organised trafficking, typically broken into smaller quantities for local distribution.

Not new for Ahmedabad…

Ahmedabad has seen several cannabis busts in the past year.  Last month, customs officials at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport seized reportedly over 12.5 kg of high‑grade hydroponic marijuana worth around Rs 12.56 crore.

In December last year, airport customs nabbed a passenger with 3.92 kg of hybrid cannabis valued at about Rs 4 crore from a Bangkok flight.

Again in a similar operation last year in December, the State Monitoring Cell intercepted 432 g of hybrid ganja worth Rs 15.12 lakh and arrested a trio near Changodar.

The same suspect was reportedly re‑arrested in early January 2026 in a linked case.

These follow earlier seizures this year and in March 2025, when 105 parcels at the Foreign Post Office were found to contain hybrid ganja and other narcotics worth over Rs 3.45 crore.
