Punjab Congress president Navjot Sidhu who arrived Pakistan from Kartarpur Corridor to pay homage to Gurudwara Kartarpur Sabhi has once again found himself in a controversial spot.
The last time Sidhu visited Pakistan, he had embraced General Bajwa of the Pakistan Army on the issue of opening the Kartarpur corridor. There was much opposition after that. In such a situation, all eyes were on his today’s journey.
Sidhu was accompanied by Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Chaudhary, Minister Pargat Singh, Amarinder Singh Raja Wading, Acting President Kuljit Nagra and Pawan Goyal. “The Kartarpur corridor has been opened due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan,” Sidhu said.
Earlier, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channy had wanted to take state chief Navjot Singh Sidhu with him on November 18 to pay obeisance to Shri Kartarpur Sahib, but Sidhu was ready to go with his supporters. So they planned to go separately.
According to party sources, Chief Minister Channy had asked Sidhu to stay with him but he refused. So the Channi government advised him to go with Leader of Opposition and AAP MLA Harpal Singh Cheema but Cheema refused. He made preparations to go to Shri Kartarpur Sahib along with his party’s state president Bhagwant Mann and other AAP MLAs.
During a press conference at Punjab Congress Bhavan on November 16, Sidhu announced that he was making an urgent request to visit Shri Kartarpur Sahib. Sidhu was eager to pay his respects on the occasion of Guruparva on 19th November but did not get the chance.
