Javelin-thrower Neeraj Chopra’s javelin fetched Rs.1.5 crores in the e-auction of gifts and mementos presented to the Prime Minister. He made the countrymen and women proud by winning the first individual Gold in athletics at Olympics for independent India.
Total 1348 mementos were put up in e-auction for which over 8600 bids were received. Maximum bids, 140, were received for a sculpture of Sardar Patel.
Neeraj Chopra’s javelin was picked at Rs 1.5 crores as the highest in terms of bid value. The e-auction was held from September 17 to october 7 through web portal www.pmmementoes.gov.in
The proceeds of the auction will go to the Namami Gange Mission.
