Nupur Sharma Row: Man Beheaded After Social Media Post Backing Her

|Udaipur | Updated: June 28, 2022 20:21

Two men, who posed as customers at a tailoring shop, on Tuesday allegedly beheaded the tailor in Udaipur’s Maldas Street, days after sharing social media posts in support of Nupur Sharma.

The assailants broke into his shop on Tuesday in broad daylight, stabbed him multiple times with a sword, and then slashed his throat. After the crime, the suspect posted a message on social media in which he also admitted to carrying out the murder.

The complete attack’s video has also been widely available online. The two individuals who boasted about the beheading and threatened the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi released this video.

The victim, 40-year-old Kanhaiyalal Teli, ran a store called Supreme Tailors in Dhanmondi, close to Bhootmahal. Teli lived in Udaipur’s Govardhan Vilas area. Around 2:30 pm on Tuesday, two miscreants arrived on a bike and pretended to have come for the measurement of clothes they wanted to be stitched before entering the store.

Before Kanhaiyalal could respond, they allegedly attacked him with swords. Kanhaiyalal succumbed to his injuries and died on the spot.

Policemen of Ghantaghar and Surajpol police stations, including Dhanmandi, reached the spot along with an FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team.

Ten days earlier, Teli made a social media post in support of Nupur Sharma, who had been expelled from the BJP for her derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammed. Since then, members in a specific neighbourhood have been threatening to kill him. The persistent threats worried Kanhaiyalal.

For six days, he had not even opened his tailor shop. A specific report about the young people threatening the police was presented to him. When the police advised him to exercise caution for a few days, they did not take him seriously.

To express their outrage at this tragedy, protesters have shut down the stores in the market and are holding demonstrations in five different parts of the city. According to reports, SP Manoj Chaudhary and Collector Tara Chand Meena also rushed to the location. Additionally, more police units have been dispatched from Kherwara city near Udaipur.

SP Udaipur Manoj Chaudhary said as soon as the information was received, the police force was deployed on the spot. Chaudhary also stated that action would be taken against whoever is the culprit and the family of the victim has not been spoken to at the moment.

“A heinous murder has been committed and a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident. A few accused have been identified. Police teams were constituted to locate the accused. We will take action on the video of men claiming to have committed the act,” said the Udaipur SP.

Asked about complaints of threats being received after the post in support of Nupur Sharma, the SP said all the records related to the deceased were being investigated, and some of the accused involved have been identified.

“I condemn the heinous murder of a youth in Udaipur. Strict action will be taken against the criminals involved in this incident. I appeal to everyone to maintain peace and not share the video of the act,” Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said.
