It is confirmed. The dreaded Corona variant Omicron has ultimately reached Indian shores. Identified by South African researchers, the virus is containing the latest strain christened Omicron is considered more tricky. In the state of Karnataka, two patients affected by this variant are found.
Out of the two patients found in Karnataka, one is 45 years old while the other is 66 years old. The government has increased screening measures and regulations such as people traveling from the country where the Omicron virus has spread to be quarantined and to be kept under constant surveillance are put in place.
Love Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health has confirmed the news. He also underlined the scientific theory that the new variant of Corona, Omicron has the ability to spread much more rapidly than the delta version. So far, 373 cases of Omicron have been reported in 29 countries around the world.
Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandavia is scheduled to hold meetings with Ministers of States and Union Territories. Corona testing and surveillance will be done more stringently at the airport for this purpose. Corona was recently spotted among passengers returning from Mauritius and London.
