Gujarat: Patidars to meet CM Bhupendra Patel To Take Up Various Demands

| Updated: October 22, 2021 12:41

Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti is likely to meet the newly elected Kadwa Patidar CM, Bhupendra Patel. As the solution for the 2015 Patidar Andolan’s demands is yet to be formulated, this proposed discussion covers the Patidar Andolan demands.

Their major demands include withdrawal of criminal cases registered against the Patidar community members during 2015 quota agitation, giving jobs to the next of kin of the 14 Patidar ‘shaheeds’ killed in police action during the agitation, a survey of the community for giving it OBC (Other Backward Class) community status, and restoration of the controversial General Resolution (GR) of General Administration Department that the state government was forced to cancel after it was challenged in the Gujarat High Court.

Proposed demands :

1. Patidar reservation

2. Demands of providing jobs to the people who lost their lives in the Patidar Andolan

3. To withdraw police cases registered during the Patidar Andolan

4. To discuss issues faced by the non-reserved class corporation

5.  Women’s Reservation

6. Village taluka and district level social organization

PAAS leader Alpesh Kathiriya has requested the CM for a meeting before 31st October. The proposal was collectively supported by Patidar organisations Umiya Dham (Unjha) and Khodaldham. Notably, the newly elected CM hails from the Kadwa Patidar community which has a stronger hold in the North part of the state, which had a robust contribution to the Patidar Andolan.

The community leader said they would wait for the government to invite them for talks till October 31. “After Diwali, we will decide our future course of action after consulting all the major Patidar groups,” he added. Although the meeting was organised by PAAS, it was for all leading members of the community, Kathiria said.

The meeting, if held between the CM and PAAS conveners will decide the fate of Patel Reservation. The inclination of the CM towards his own community remains a question and an answer to the upcoming 2022 polls.
