The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Gujarat Assembly has taken serious note of the fact that the Gujarat Government has failed to recover dues amounting to a whopping Rs.349 crores from Indian Rayon, a unit of Aditya Birla Nuvo, situated at Veraval, Gujarat.
The PAC has pointed out that the dues have been accumulated since last 18 years and the government’s interest in the recovery of dues has been lacking. The committee headed by Congress MLA Punjabhai Vansh took cognizance of the Comptroller & Auditor General of India ( CAG ) report which has raised objections about the recovery not made so far.
Public Accounts Committee is a committee constituted by the selected members from the legislative assembly for the purpose of auditing and examining the revenue and the expenditure of the Government.
The PAC constituted under 14th Gujarat Vidhansabha with 14 senior MLAs from BJP and Congress have stated unanimously that the Collector has not acted against the encroachment by the company on government land. The PAC went on so far to ask wether or not the encroaching by the company should be termed as ‘land grabbing’ or not. The PAC has noted that due to gross negligence on the part of revenue and water resources officials, the exchequer has suffered big loss.
