According to Central Board of Film Certification Chairperson Prasoon Joshi, the CBFC has instructed the makers of the Shah Rukh Khan movie Pathaan to make “changes” to the film, including the songs.
The CBFC has requested Yash Raj Films to submit a revised version of the spy action-thriller in accordance with the rules, according to Joshi’s statement. He made no mention of the adjustments that were offered to the makers.
After the song Besharam Rang, which also features Deepika Padukone, was released on December 12, Pathaan found itself dealing with backlash and calls for a ban.
‘The film recently reached the CBFC examination committee for certification. The film went through the due and thorough examining process as per the CBFC guidelines. The committee has guided the makers to implement the advised changes in the film including the songs and submit the revised version prior to theatrical release,’ Joshi said.
According to Joshi, the CBFC’s goal is to find a solution that strikes a balance between the creators’ inventiveness and the audience’s sensibilities. “I must reiterate that our culture and faith is glorious, intricate and nuanced. And we have to be careful that it does not get defined by trivia which takes the focus away from the real and the true.”
The certificate for a film is given out when the finished material has been presented and any necessary revisions have been made.
Narottam Mishra, the Home Minister for Madhya Pradesh, and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad were among those who voiced their disapproval with the song Besharam Rang and called for its revision.
A ban on the movie was also requested by the Madhya Pradesh Ulema Board because it “misrepresented Islam.” Khan was allegedly disrespecting the Hindu religion when the head priest of an Ayodhya temple threatened to “burn alive” Khan last week.
John Abraham is a co-star in the upcoming movie Pathaan, which will be released in theatres on January 25.
