Patidar organisations have come together under the umbrella of Sardar Sanman Sankalp Andolan Samiti (SSSAS) to demand that the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad, be renamed Sardar Patel Stadium, according to reports.
The SSSAS has planned a march from Swaraj Ashram in Bardoli to Motera on June 12th, according to sources. They will arrive at the stadium on Monday evening, and a massive protest in front of Gate 1 is planned.
The group’s convener, Atul Patel, stated that if the government does not change the name of Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium to Sardar Patel Stadium, they will intensify their protest.
“They built a massive statue [of Sardar Patel] during the election and changed the stadium’s name afterward. We shall not allow the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to be misused by this government. It is past time to restore Sardar Patel’s honour “He went on to say.
The Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium is the largest cricket stadium on the planet. After undergoing renovations, it was renamed in February 2021. The stadium, which is spread over 63 acres and cost Rs 800 crore to construct, has overtaken the legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground in terms of seating capacity, with a capacity of 1,32,000 spectators.
