With Gujarat poised for another wave of development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will touch down in his home state today for a two-day visit, during which he will lay the foundation stones for infrastructure and public welfare projects worth Rs 5,477 crore. Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Mehsana districts are set to be the focal points of this ambitious rollout.

Upon his arrival in Ahmedabad, his home, PM Modi will lead a grand roadshow through the city before heading to the Khodaldham Ground in the Nikol area. According to reports, he is expected to address a public gathering there. He will also inaugurate or launch several projects. He will be joined by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other dignitaries for the event.

The scheduled projects span multiple departments, including urban development, roads and buildings, energy and petrochemicals, and revenue.

Key initiatives include housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for the rehabilitation of slum dwellers from Ramapir no Tekro in the Naranpura area, the development of Law Garden and Mithakhali precincts, new water distribution stations, the reconstruction of the four-lane Asarwa Railway Over Bridge between Sabarmati and Ahmedabad stations, the upgradation of the four-lane Sardar Patel Ring Road into a six-lane corridor, and the construction of a mini sports complex in Sarkhej.

Shedding light on the scale of the Sardar Patel Ring Road project, an official release said, “The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) will upgrade the four-lane main road into a six-lane road under the hybrid annuity mode in two phases, with controlled access as per expressway standards to ensure speed and safety. Alongside the six-lane main road, a 32-km four-lane service road and a 30-km three-lane service road will also be constructed. This project, with a total cost of Rs 1,624 crore, will modernise traffic capacity and infrastructure around Ahmedabad city.”

On the second day of his Gujarat tour, the Prime Minister will visit Maruti Suzuki’s facility in Hansalpur. He will serve as the chief guest at a key event hosted by the company, marking the beginning of battery electric vehicle production and their export to 100 countries. The event will also celebrate the start of production of lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery cells and electrodes.

The railway sector is set for major upgrades too. The Prime Minister has allocated projects to it valued at over Rs 1,400 crore, according to reports. These initiatives mark a significant step forward in enhancing rail infrastructure and connectivity across the region.

In the power sector, the Prime Minister will unveil distribution projects. Exceeding Rs 1,000 crore, the projects are spearheaded by the Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited (UGVCL) across Ahmedabad, Mehsana, and Gandhinagar. These will be developed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, reports added.

The initiatives are intended to modernise the existing electricity network, curb power losses, and significantly enhance service reliability.

The ceremony will witness the presence of imminent personalities, including Keiichi Ono, Ambassador of Japan to India.
