PM To Attend G-20 In Rome And COP-26 In Glasgow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to travel to two countries in the upcoming days to attend the 16th G-20 Summit and the World Leaders’ Summit of COP-26.

He is set to travel to Rome on 29th October to attend the 16th G-20 Summit from 30-31 October at the invitation of Italy’s Prime Minister, H.E. Mr Mario Draghi.

The summit is centred around ‘People, Planet and Prosperity.’ “Mostly focusing on four aspects – Recovery from the Pandemic and Strengthening of Global Health Governance, Economic Recovery and Resilience, Climate Change and Energy Transition, and Sustainable Development and Food Security,” said the press release.

Prime Minister will, thereafter, travel to Glasgow to attend the World Leader’s Summit of the 26th Conference of Parties (COP-26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

COP-26 is going to be held from 31 October to 12 November. The high-level segment of COP-26, titled the World Leaders’ Summit (WLS), will be held on 1-2 November 2021. The Summit will be attended by more than 120 countries. This Summit was originally scheduled for 2020 but got delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

PM Modi attended COP-21 in Paris in 2015 when the Paris Agreement concluded and the targets set in the summit will be discussed this year.

“At COP-26, the Parties will work to achieve the completion of Paris Agreement implementation guidelines; the mobilization of climate finance; actions to strengthen climate adaptation, technology development and transfer; and keeping in reach the Paris Agreement goals of limiting the rise in global temperatures,” said the press release.

PM Modi will be having many bilateral meetings in both summits.
