Police Bust Human Trafficking Ring in Gujarat, Rescue 14-Year-Old Victim

| Updated: March 20, 2024 17:32

A 14-year-old girl from Amroli, who had been reported missing, was found to be a victim of human trafficking. The shocking revelation led to the arrest of five individuals, including a woman who had assumed a Hindu identity to deceive the girl’s family.

The girl, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had travelled from Vadodara to Surat with her parents where they met a woman named Jyoti. Unbeknownst to them, Jyoti was actually Monirakhatun, who had ulterior motives.

On March 8th, the girl did not return home, leading her family to file a kidnapping case at the Amroli police station. The girl’s whereabouts remained unknown until she managed to contact her brother, who alerted the authorities.

The ensuing investigation led the police to Rajasthan, where they discovered the girl had been forced into prostitution. On March 13, the police arrested Monirakhatun, also known as Jyoti Sakil Haldar and four others, all hailing from Rajasthan.

Interrogation of the accused revealed a chilling series of events. The girl was lured to Munira Khatun’s house with the promise of earning a significant sum at a beauty parlour. She was then threatened with public humiliation and coerced to travel to Degana in Rajasthan’s Nagor district, where she was handed over to Saidul Molla and his wife, Mohima alias Riya.

Confined to a small room, the girl was administered stimulant pills and subjected to torture for five days. She was raped by multiple customers until one showed empathy and lent her his phone. She used this opportunity to inform her brother about her situation, leading to the police’s intervention.

A team from Amroli police station travelled to Rajasthan, apprehended the entire gang, and confiscated a car and DVR. The accused have been remanded until March 21 and further investigations are underway.

Authorities are probing the extent of the involvement of other young women in similar circumstances and other individuals implicated in the prostitution ring. Saidul Molla and his wife, who coerced the young woman into prostitution, confessed that one Sahib Syed holds a higher position in this illicit business. The police are actively searching for Sahib Syed.
