Ponniyin Selvan To Hit The Big Screens This September 30

The plot of Ponniyin Selvan is set in the 10th century during a crucial time in the Chola Empire when the struggle between different branches of the ruling family caused riots between the successors to rule the empire. The movie features Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sobhita Dhulipala, amongst others in a pivotal role.

The film, Ponniyin Selvan, is set to release in many languages, namely, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. The film is set to hit the big screens on September 30th, 2022.

After a short shoot in Puducherry last year, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, and others have started the final schedule of the movie in Hyderabad. A huge set has been constructed on a hillock at Ramoji Film City, where Vikram’s character — Aditya Karikalan — will lead a war.    

Vikram has already shot a sequence. Some intense scenes are to be shot with Aishwarya, Karthi, Trisha, and Jayam, and one song with the entire cast. After that the Chola expedition that sees Karikalan defeat the Pandya king, Veerapandyan is to be shot. Envisaged in two parts, the magnum opus will trace the early days of Arulmozhivarman, who became Emperor Rajaraja Chola I. Rai will be seen in a double role as princess Nandini, and her mother, queen Mandakini Devi.
