Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2024: Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, or NRI Day (Non-Resident Indian), is a yearly celebration on January 9. It is a way of appreciating and celebrating the Indian diaspora around the world. NRI Day highlights the achievements and contributions of Indians living abroad in different fields, and strengthens the bond between them and their homeland.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2024: Theme The theme for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2021 was “Contributing to Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India) and 2023 was “Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal” (The Era of Nectar)

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2024: History Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was started in 2003 by the former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to mark the day when Mahatma Gandhi returned from South Africa to India on January 9, 1915.

PM Narendra Modi also wishes greetings on Pravasi Bharatiya Divas through the social media platform X.

It was held every year from 2003 to 2015. But it was changed in 2015, and since then, Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is held every two years. The Ministry of External Affairs chooses a special theme for each occasion.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2024: Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards are given to NRIs and PIOs (People of Indian Origin) who have done excellent work and made valuable contributions in various fields, such as education, science and technology, arts and culture, social work, public service, trade and industry, and philanthropy.
