A relative and an official of an expedition company said on Tuesday that the family of injured Indian mountaineer Anurag Maloo is preparing to fly him from Nepal to New Delhi for additional treatment as the infection is spreading throughout his body.
Anurag, a 34-year-old resident of Kishangarh, Rajasthan, went missing in mid-April after he fell from a height of roughly 6,000 meters while descending from Camp III. Mount Annapurna is the 10th highest mountain in the world.
After three days of constant searching by a team of rescuers, he was found alive on April 20 in a deep crevasse at a height of about 5800 meters. He was taken immediately to Manipal Hospital in Pokhara before being flown to Kathmandu for additional care.
Anurag’s cousin Sudheer said that “the family intends to fly him to New Delhi for treatment but they are unable to share any details until all the necessary arrangements have been made.”
“His infection has spread and needs further treatment, so he will soon be flown to Delhi,” an official at the Seven Summit Trek, the organiser of the expedition of which Anurag was a part, said.
The official, however, claimed to be in the dark regarding the mountaineer’s discharge from a Kathmandu hospital and flown to New Delhi.
His health is progressively getting better, according to the doctors, though he is still in danger. At the Intensive Care Unit of the Medicity Hospital, one of the best private hospitals in Kathmandu, Anurag is still receiving ventilator support.
In order to raise awareness of the UN Global Goals and spur action towards achieving them, he set out to climb all 14 peaks higher than 8000 metres as well as the seven highest points on each of the seven continents.
