Rajkot: Even I Had To Bribe Fire Officials, Says MP Mokariya

| Updated: May 31, 2024 10:49

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rambhai Mokariya dropped a bombshell yesterday when he claimed that even he had to bribe the fire officer to obtain a fire NOC. Mokariya named the Deputy Chief Fire Officer of Rajkot, Bhikhabhai Theba, as the recipient of a bribe of Rs. 70000.

The BJP MP’s statement has unintentionally raised serious questions about the claims of clean administration and indirectly put his party in an embarrassing position. Mokariya said that once he became MP, he got the money back.

The opposition party Congress was quick to seize the issue. Congress leader Dr. Hemang Vasavada said the BJP MP must be tried for offering a bribe. Both acts of receiving or giving a bribe constitute a crime under the Indian legal system.

Rambhai Mokariya has been in the news for the wrong reasons recently. He was caught on camera using vulgar expletives to the media persons who were incessantly following the group of leaders, for asking questions about the Rajkot fire tragedy. He was criticized heavily for this attitude, unbecoming of a public servant and member of parliament.

Earlier, Rambhai Mokariya made headlines when he made a sensational claim, accusing a fellow senior BJP MP of having usurped his money. Mokariya posted on social media that the senior leader has not returned crores of rupees given to him. He did not name the leader.
