An agricultural labourer from Rajkot, Gujarat died by suicide on Tuesday. The labourer was reportedly raped by the land owner in a village in Wadhwan taluka of Surendranagar district.
The police informed that the accused Yuvrajsinh Parmar owns 30 bigha land in the area and had sought sexual favours from the wife of a man who was working as share-cropper on the land. However, when the woman resisted, he hit her with a stick and threatened to kill her and her three year old son. Then he forced himself on her and left the spot.
An officer of Surendranagar district police said that the 30 year old woman told her husband the incident and an FIR was registered based on the complaint filed by her husband. Following which, the woman attempted suicide on the field itself. Her husband found out and took her to the hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.
The police further informed that the couple has been working Parmar’s land and were to get 25 percent of the produce as their share. Currently, the accused is on the run but the police is looking for him.
