Rajkot Homeopathic Doctor Booked For Culpable Homicide

| Updated: March 17, 2024 13:33

A lady homeopathic doctor was booked for culpable homicide after a 20-year-old pregnant woman died hours after giving birth through cesarean at her clinic in Rajkot.

Dr Heena Patel, who was earlier booked for conducting sex determination tests in 2019, runs Foram Hospital on Shahpur Main Road, had been treating the woman Payal Solanki for the past four months.

On Friday, Payal had labour pain and her husband took her to the hospital for examination. Dr Patel advised admitting her and delivered baby girl in the evening. However, about two hours after the delivery, Payal died.

Her father Jitu Solanki lodged a complaint against the doctor with the Bhaktinagar police station, alleging negligence leading to his daughter’s death.

Solanki said after the delivery, the infant was shifted to another hospital, and the doctors here were seen moving around in panic. Some doctors came with oxygen cylinders and some machines.

When Solanki asked Dr Patel, they said Payal had suffered convulsions. Later, they were told that Payal died due to some cardiac complications.

According to the complaint, Solanki asked Dr Patel about hospital infrastructure and resources to deal with the complications and threatened to call the police. However, the doctor threatened to die by suicide if he called the cops and said that it was their sheer misfortune that Payal died, the complaint states.

BV Jadhav, assistant commissioner of police (east) said, “Dr Patel is a homeopath doctor and not qualified to treat pregnant women. We will also write to the health department to cancel her licence.”

Dr Patel was booked under IPC section 304 and sections of the Atrocities Act. She has done a diploma in homeopathy and surgery (DHMS).
