As the Bhukhi river inundated due to the copious rain, the water which was inside Matroj village turned out to be an emergency situation. A report by Karjan’s police officer M.A. Patel, said low lying areas of Matrok were inundated due to torrential rain, and as a result the Bhukhi river was flooded.Thankfully, apda mitra, revenue agencies, Gram Rakshak Dal and the local police took the matter of rescue into their hands. Their coordination and bravery helped shift 230 people and livestock to safer places.

Tuesday’s rescue operation was headed by twelve jawans under the supervision of police officer of Karjuanj, M.A Patel, 14 Gram Rakshak Dal, Apda mitras Kunal Patanwadia, Adil Patel and Asif Patel trained by GSDMA to rescue in times of crisis. DPO Bantish Kumar, shared that 240 people had been trained as Apda Mitra in the rural areas, so that in times of need, they can make makeshift arrangements to save people in need. And this incident proved to be the ideal time to showcase their training.

The rescue team made optimum use of the training skills to rescue people from the available items, by using them in an adroit and proactive manner. Very cleverly, they made a bed palanquin and placed people on it. If the people were injured, they tied a protective bandage made from plastic on the shoulder and lifted the people outside the water with the help of police and GRDs. No animals were left to their good, as measures were taken to relocate cattle to safer places. Calf was carried on shoulders to be taken across the dangerous places. The revenue department worked cautiously in the rain as well, with district and taluka rooms also being vigilant.
