With the latest Covid variant Omicron making headlines world over, the authorities in Mumbai also have embarked upon looking for the travellers returning from South Africa and other high-risk countries to find out infection if any.
The state health authorities have found six such travellers infected with covid within a fortnight. It is confirmed that one of the travellers, hailing from Mumbai is not infected with Omicron. The RT-PCR tests found the “S” gene in the sample, which makes it unlikely that the person was affected by new variant.
Other five persons infected are one each from Pune, Kalyan and Bhayandar and two from Pimpri-Chinchwad.
