Japan’s Princess Mako recently got married to a commoner Kei Kumoro after a years-long relationship. While some of the netizens were not happy with the decision and protested against the marriage, the couple seems to be happy and rather unaffected by the netizens’ scrutiny.
As per the law, a woman wanting to marry a commoner will have to leave her royal title and Mako also opted for the same. She not only lost her royal status but also refused the payment of more than $1 million which every female leaving her royal status gets. She is the first woman to do so.

Japan’s princess Sayako also gave up her title to marry a commoner. Princess Mako’s aunt was asked to leave the imperial household.
