Sabarmati Ashram Redevelopment Team Threatened By Resident Of Chawl

| Updated: June 24, 2022 11:02

The redevelopment team for Sabarmati Ashram has filed an FIR with the Ranip police, saying that a man from the Panditji Chawl, Dabhi, threatened and abused them, and obstructed their way so that they could not do their duty. The team had been at the chawl to talk to the residents about the redevelopment and how they will be compensated when this incident happened.

The redevelopment team was led by Kaushik Solanki, a circle officer for Sabarm taluka of Ahmedabad district, and included city sub-divisional officer J B Desai, city mamlatdar Vasantkunvarba Parmar and talatis Manisha Pandor and Darshit Kataria. The man who allegedly obstructed them and verbally abused them was Shirish Dabhi, a relative of one Babu Patel.

According to the sources, in the FIR, Solanki has said that Dabhi uttered profanities against the team and forced them to leave the area. Dabhi also allegedly threatened that he would attack the government if the team ever came back with the redevelopment on the agenda.

The Sabarmati Ashram redevelopment project has been undertaken by the government in order to build the Gandhi Ashram Memorial, and keep India’s history of freedom struggle intact. As such, the team has been meeting the residents of areas around Ashram and counseling them about the benefits of the project.
