| Updated: January 5, 2023 12:58

During a random check, principal of a city school found Rs 11,000 cash from a student’s bag. In another incident, a school teacher found a contraceptive in the bag of an upper primary (class 5-8) student.

In the past, Ahmedabad schools have reported finding banned items like mobiles, cosmetics, perfumes, e-cigarettes and large amounts of cash from bags of students.

Ahmedabad-based schools have intensified random checks of bags after an incident in Bengaluru wherein a condom pack was found from the bag of a school-going student.

Executive Director of Udgam School for Children Manan Choksi said that apart from cash seizures up to Rs 12,000, mobile phones and other prohibited items, the school had once found a scrap-book from a student which contained objectionable writings and gossip about fellow students.

Principal of DAV International School Nivedita Ganguly said the surprise check is carried out frequently. Anjali Kwatra, Principal of the New Tulip International School, said she stands at the main gate daily and checks students’ bags to ensure discipline.

In all such cases where objectionable items are found, parents are immediately informed and corrective measures like counselling undertaken.
