Scorching Days Ahead: Heatwave To Grip Gujarat Till March 12

| Updated: March 10, 2025 19:28

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for a heatwave across most districts of Saurashtra-Kutch and other regions of Gujarat for the next three days, until March 12.

The forecast anticipates discomfort due to prevailing hot and humid weather, despite summer having officially begun only eight days ago.

According to the IMD’s seven-day forecast, maximum temperatures are expected to remain unchanged over the next three days, followed by a decrease of 2-3°C across the region.

Interior parts of Saurashtra-Kutch, adjoining areas of North Gujarat, and sections of South Gujarat are likely to witness maximum temperatures ranging between 40-42°C over the next two to three days.

Consequently, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in these areas. Minimum temperatures will likely remain steady over the next 48 hours, with a decrease of 2-3°C anticipated thereafter. Coastal regions of South Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch are expected to experience hot and humid conditions during this period.

The IMD has issued specific warnings for Gujarat, Diu, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. On March 10, isolated pockets in Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, and Surat in Gujarat, along with Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Morbi, Amreli, Gir-Somnath, Kutch, and Diu in Saurashtra-Kutch, are likely to experience heatwave conditions.

On March 11, similar conditions are forecast for Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, and Surat, as well as Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Morbi, Amreli, and Kutch in Saurashtra-Kutch. On March 12, heatwave conditions may persist in Banaskantha in North Gujarat, alongside Surendranagar, Rajkot, and Kutch in Saurashtra-Kutch.

Residents in the affected regions have been advised to take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.
