A 26-year-old thief Umesh Khatik nabbed by Crime Branch Ahmedabad has told the police that he committed the crimes to provide the luxurious lifestyle that his wife craved. The man has committed 43 crimes of stealing vehicles and chain snatching at different places across India since 2016.
Umesh Khatik has said that he used to go to Bangalore by air from Ahmedabad where he would steal a vehicle and snatch a chain and come back by train. He confessed to using the same modus operandi between Hyderabad and Bangalore. He said that he turned to theft and chain snatching to allow his wife the pleasures of shopping and luxurious vacations.
Police have informed that Umesh Khatik had absconded a month and a half ago from police custody. Since, he would board a bus leaving Ahmedabad, commit theft and come back.
The police records of Umesh Khatik mention 43 criminal acts out of which 21 are in Ahmedabad, 11 in Surat, 1 in Kheda, 7 in Hyderabad and 4 in Bangalore.
