Saturday, Seven teenagers accidentally drowned in a lake. This incident happened while they were trying to disperse Karma Dali, in Manandih village under Sargada panchayat within the limits of Balumath police station in Jharkhand. The dead includes three real sisters. The accident happened during the rescue of a girl, unfortunately, while doing the rescue each of the teenagers drowned one by one in the lake. The locals pulled everyone’s bodies out of the lake.
The deceased have been identified as Rekha Kumari (17), Reena Kumari (12), Lakshmi Kumari (9), Sunita Kumari (16), Basanti Kumari (10), Sushma Kumari (10) and Pinky Kumari (17). She had Rekha, Reena and Lakshmi sisters. Karma Puja was being celebrated in the village of Manandih. On Saturday, dozens of girls went to a lake-shaped pit to perform karma puja
While performing the pooja, suddenly a girl started drowning in the pit. To save her, the seven girls simultaneously reached the deep water of the pit and drowned. Villagers rushed to the spot after the incident and pulled all the girls out of the pit after hard work immediately. Sadly even after all the hard work put in by the locals, four girls died. When the three teenagers were taken to the hospital to save their lives, the doctor declared them dead at arrival. The entire village was in mourning after this shocking incident where the daughters of the village drowned to their death.
Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren has also expressed grief over the incident. “I am stunned to hear about the incident in Sheregada village in Latehar district. May God provide peace to the departed souls” he wrote on his social media handles.
