In another first for organ donation and transplantation programme in Gujarat, the lungs of a 25-year-old brain dead youth from Surendranagar were transplanted into a 35-year-old female patient from Seychelles on Sunday.
After Rakesh Vaghela suffered grievous trauma in an accident, he was declared brain dead by a panel of doctors at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. The young man’s family decided to donate his kidneys, liver and lungs.
A green corridor to Mumbai’s Global Hospitals was created for the same.
Of the 26 lung donations from Gujarat till now, 25 have been received by Indians in other states.
