SISPA Opens Certificate Course On Counter Terrorism

Center for Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism (CCICT) under the aegis of the School of Internal Security and Police Administration (SISPA), Rashtriya Raksha University in Dehgam district of Gandhinagar organized its 3rd Edition of certificate course, which was inaugurated today and will culminate on June 19.

The course, which will be held for four days, is expected to see participation from total of 63 students of which, 15 will be attending the course physically. Police personnel, army personnel, academicians and students will be joining this course. The main objective of this certificate course is to give an idea about the role of education and research in designing and understanding the materials, strategies and operations in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations. Experiences and best practices from various countries can further add to dealing with these threats. With an aim to serve for greater intellectual and professional interoperability within and between forces and agencies as well as partner countries

On the emergence of this course and further details, Bhavani Singh Rathore, Director, SISPA said  “From today onwards we have begun the certificate course on counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism. The university is of national importance under the MHA, which focuses on police and internal security. As a nation, we are facing terrorist and insurgency threats, hence the university focuses on boosting and building the capacity of the police personnel and researchers who are doing research in this field. this is the third edition, before this, we have done two virtual interactions during covid times.”

Sanjay Kumar Jha, Professor, the Central University of Gujarat, will be giving a lecture on ‘Counter-Terrorism and Radicalization of terrorists and Insurgents: Indian Experience ‘. While interacting with team VoI he talked about the focal points of his lecture and said, “One important feature of such training programmes is that you have participants from security agencies, government agencies and academia. My talk will be on insurgency and terrorism in the Indian context. I will focus on how we in India look at this problem of terrorism and insurgency and how serious this problem is to our national security. The second lecture would be on radicalisation to terrorism since radicalisation has become a serious problem across the globe. I will highlight to what extent India has been affected by that and by what ways are the terrorist groups using this radicalisation to recruit people to polarize Indian society. As all these things are going to have a serious impact the practitioners, students and policy planners need to know the existing threat to the country.”

Rahul Tripathi, IPS, is going to undergo this course. explaining his expectations regarding this, he said, “This course is quite important for the forces like BSF and CRPF, who do their duties on the borer and counter-terrorism as the two biggest challenge for the country are Insurgency and terrorism. I hope that this training showcases the preemptive tactics while battling these threats along with insights on how to prevent them and tackle them if the hour of need occurs.”

Dignitaries at the ceremony included Ajit Kumar Malik (Former Under Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat), Sanjay Kumar Jha (Professor, the Central University of Gujarat ), Dr Akshat Mehta (University Dean) and  Bhavani Singh Rathore (Director, SISPA )
