‘It Was Her Plan; No, It Was His’: Siya, Chetan Shift Blame In Murder Case

| Updated: June 26, 2026 20:48

The investigation into the murder of 25-year-old Ketan Agarwal has revealed that the two accused, his fiancée Siya Goyal (20) and her alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary (22), are blaming each other for plotting the crime during separate interrogations by Pune Rural Police.

According to the police, Chetan claimed that he only wanted to elope with Siya and that the plan to kill Ketan was her idea. Siya, however, has denied this allegation and told investigators that the murder plan was conceived by Chetan. She further claimed that Chetan broke down and cried after their earlier attempt to eliminate Ketan at Lohagad Fort on June 14 failed.

Police said their investigation has uncovered an alleged conspiracy involving Siya and Chetan, who have reportedly been in a relationship since October 2025. Meanwhile, Siya had become engaged to Ketan on February 19, and the couple was scheduled to marry later this year in Rajasthan. Preparations for the destination wedding had already begun, with a palace booked for the ceremony and two special flights arranged to transport family members and guests. However, police said Siya did not want to marry Ketan.

Siya and Chetan were arrested on June 23 after investigators pieced together the alleged conspiracy. Both accused have been remanded to police custody until June 29, while separate interrogation of the duo continues.

The investigation has also revealed that Siya allegedly sabotaged the couple’s planned pre-wedding photoshoot in Bali by stealing Ketan’s passport. Police further said she took Ketan to Lohagad Fort on two occasions, on May 31 and June 14, before the alleged murder took place on June 18, when she and Chetan are accused of pushing him off the western cliff of the fort. Investigators also said Siya had insisted that Ketan visit Lohagad Fort on June 4, but the trip did not happen because Ketan’s mother did not allow him to go.

A police officer associated with the investigation said separate interrogation teams are questioning the two accused, who are each attempting to shift responsibility for the conspiracy onto the other. According to the officer, investigators possess a chain of evidence that suggests both Siya and Chetan were involved in planning Ketan’s murder.

Police said their probe indicates that Siya and Chetan became close after meeting during a Diwali celebration in October last year. Investigators also found that Chetan used multiple phone numbers and that analysis of their call detail records showed the two exchanged more than 4,400 phone calls over the past year.

The investigation has also traced the background of Ketan and Siya’s relationship. Ketan had recently returned to India after completing his master’s degree in Boston, United States. According to police, the two families met during a wedding in Gulbarga, Karnataka, on February 11 this year, where both families were present. The families, who are distantly related through their extended relatives and have known each other since the 1990s, discussed the marriage proposal during meetings held on February 12 and 13. The engagement ceremony was then held on February 19 at a hotel in Pune.

Police said Siya is currently pursuing a commerce degree at a college in Pune and has recently started her own bakery business. Chetan is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course in Pune. Investigators also noted that Siya’s family runs a spices and dry fruits trading business in Pune’s Market Yard, while Chetan’s family is engaged in the grocery trading business in the same market area.

The investigation into the case is continuing as Pune Rural Police examine the evidence and further question both accused regarding the alleged conspiracy.
