Demanding the compensation alike the Ashram inhabitants as per the Ashram Redevelopment Project’s rehabilitation policy, the 55 slum dwellers have moved High Court against the oral instructions given to them to evict the premises.
Local civic authorities, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Ahmedabad district collectorate had visited the Government plot occupied by the slumdwellers with an intention to raze the ground and take possession of the plot for the purpose of Gandhi Ashram Precinct Development Project. Giving the residents momentary relief, they have given a week’s time to vacate the plot.
The slum dwellers are demanding that the benefits of the Regulations for the Rehabilitation and Redevelopment of the Slums, 2010 be extended to them. They are seeking an alternative accommodation within 1 km range of the present area or ex gratia payment.
The hutment dwellers through their advocate Anand Yagnik have represented that there is no prior written notice given to them about eviction. 55 families are residing on the plot since 20 to 25 years.
