At a time when the Indian Armed Forces were giving their best to target selected sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor, posts by two corporators of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajkot and Vadodara have become a subject matter of discussion and the Opposition Congress has demanded that the cyber crime branch should initiate action in such cases.
Chetan Sureja, corporator of ward number 10 in Rajkot, and Chhaya Kharadi, corporator of ward number 3 in Vadodara, posted on social media that you can get to see only this much war in 240 seats. If you want to see the full war then you should give 400 seats. The post was followed by an emoji.
The corporators were referring to the seats bagged by the BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha election.
In no time their posts went viral and became a subject matter of discussion. In fact, the posts did not go down well with their party either. Both the corporators were left with no option but to the delete their posts and apologise for their mistake.
Gujarat BJP spokesperson Yagnesh Dave told Vibes of India that the party has made it clear that it has nothing to do with the posts by the corporators. “The post was followed by an emoji and it was a kind of a satire,” Dave said, adding that the party does not agree with the post.
The BJP leader said that the partymen have been instructed to be careful while making comments or putting up social media posts. Dave said that they party will issue guidelines at the national level for the partymen.
Himmatsinh Patel, Ahmedabad unit president of the Congress, observed that at a time when the country is lauding efforts of the Armed Forces and the opposition has given full support to the government, statements like you can see only this much war in 240 seats is a shame for the Armed Forces and the country.
Patel categorically said that such posts affect the morale of the Armed Forces.
The Congress leader demanded that criminal cases be filed against such people and they be sent behind the bars. This, according to him, is an act of treason.
Operation Sindoor is India’s answer to Pahalgam attack on April 22 in which terrorists gunned down 26 tourists.
Patel also observed that this is no time to play politics and country comes first.
While it remains to be seen if at all any action is initiated against these two corporators, the Gujarat Police have registered FIRs against 14 people for putting up objectionable posts related to the ongoing Operation Sindoor.
