Tamil Nadu government is to table a bill in the Legislative Assembly seeking a permanent exemption to the state from NEET(National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) today. This comes after a 19-year-old medical aspirant was found dead at his home hours before the NEET exam.
Stalin took to Twitter that read ” Another death on the altar of NEET. Let education be a qualification and let destroy qualifications alone for the education itself which is injustice. Tomorrow we will bring the Permanent Exemption Bill for NEET. Let us take NEET as an issue of the Indian subcontinent.”
Condoling to the student’s death, Stalin stated that their legal struggle against NEET finally starts now after taking over the reins of the government. The Chief Minister alleged that the centre however does not understand the huge issues cause by NEET to students that it compels them to attempt suicide.
Further, Stalin said that irregularities in conducting NEET, leaked papers and several instances of fraud including attempts of suicide have failed to prompt the Centre to have a change of heart, further reinforcing the necessity of having education in the state list of the Constitution.
Earlier this week, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also tweeted on the same matter stating the Government of India is blind to students; distress.
