One of the biggest defence manufacturers in India, Larsen & Toubro, has urged the Gujarat government to consider a “relook” at its six-year-old defence policy.

Speaking at the DefExpo 2022 in Gandhinagar, the L&T director and senior executive vice-president of L&T’s Defence Business, JD Patil said, “The biggest reason to come to Gujarat is the pace at which you can run your business. While there are enormous good reasons to come here (in Gujarat), there is always something which can be improved on.”

He was speaking at a seminar organised by the state government on ‘Gujarat: Propelling AatmaNirbhar Bharat in Aerospace and Defence Sector’. He underlined that the next phase would be “Make for India, Make for the World”, and hence needs a different level of thinking.

In the Aerospace and Defence Policy, 2016, the Gujarat government promised many benefits, including providing land at 50 percent discount, to the defence industry.
