Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) teams this morning managed to capture a suspect, Jalil Mullah, from Bhagatalao of the Sayedpura area in Surat. The man, who is likely to be younger than 25 years old, allegedly has a connection with the Jammu & Kashmir’s Al-Badr terror group. The police seized several documents and other items from his house.
Jalil was detained and taken to the Special Operations Group (SOG) offices in Gopipura for questioning. Surat police have also been involved in the operation.
The authorities had received information regarding an ISIS module of 2021, which was said to be linked with Yasin Bhatkal. This kickstarted a widespread investigation. Similar investigations began in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, where connection to Surat came to light.
After getting the information, police investigated the matter in Sayedpura area, where Jalil was identified as a suspect. Thereafter the police were able to capture him and take him in for interrogation.
Nevertheless, the Surat police have yet to give any official statement regarding Jalil or his detainment.
