Surat MMTH To Provide World Class Amenities, Says RLDA

| Updated: July 29, 2022 15:14

The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) invited an RFP (Request for Proposal) for the Surat MMTH Station development. Envisioned as a multi-modal transport hub (MMTH), the station will have an EPC (Engineering Procurement & Construction) model at an indicative cost of ₹813 crores. It also has a total development area of 3,31,491 sqm.

In the first phase, the RLDA plans to build the east and west side of the station, concourses, platform area, and ISBT. The scope of work includes performing civil and MEP works for the station building with designing and developing/redeveloping Surat MMTH. RLDA has set a target of 48 months for the project completion. Moreover, the last date of submission is August 17, 2022.

RLDA plans to build the Surat MMTH station with skywalks, lounges, a medical room, and retail spaces for a better user experience. It will also have a GSRTC bus station, metro station and other modes of public transport. According to RLDA, travellers can seamlessly switch from one transport mode to another.

Ved Prakash Dudeja, Vice Chairman of RLDA, said, “Surat is a vibrant commercial and industrial hub. It is also amongst the fastest-growing cities in the world. Further, the Surat MMTH Railway Station aims to strengthen the local economy and boost tourism potential. The RLDA will develop the station in the lines of global standard to provide world-class amenities.”

Surat, the second-largest city in Gujarat, clocked a high growth rate over the past four decades. The reason behind it was the burgeoning industrial sector that created employment opportunities and encouraged youth immigration.

Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) is a statutory authority under the Ministry of Railways. It is responsible for Indian Railway’s land development. As a part of RLDA’s development plan, there are four key mandates, commercial sites, colony upgradation, station upgradation, and multi-functional complexes.

Furthermore, RLDA claims to have leased out six sites at Liluah (Howrah), Nizamabad (Telangana), Waltax Road (Chennai), Egmore (Chennai), Bhopal (MP), Ludhiana (Punjab) and Chaupla Colony Barelli(UP) for a cumulative lease premium of ₹533 crores in the current financial year.
